CUP INVITED TO AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY PACIFIC SCIENCE CONFERENCE!
CUP Invited to Auckland University Pacific Science Conference
Dates: 11th - 13th November
Venue: Auckland University City Campus
Christ's University in Pacific (CUP) was honored to participate in the Auckland University Pacific Science Conference. Representing CUP were the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Dr. Vili Saulala, and Dean of School of Science, Associate Professor Viliami Takau.
One of the highlight for CUP at the conference was Associate Professor Viliami Takau’s presentation on the second day, where he shared groundbreaking insights through his research paper.
Abstract of Presentation:
Recent advancements in medical linear accelerator technologies have significantly enhanced the precision and accuracy of cancer treatments, leading to improved patient outcomes. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has become essential for identifying clinical targets and organs at risk. The integration of MRI with linear accelerators has resulted in the development of the Magnetic Resonance Accelerator (MR-Linac), a revolutionary radiation therapy tool guided by MR imaging. This technology provides enhanced tumor visibility, enabling real-time adaptive radiotherapy—particularly vital for chest and abdominal tumors prone to motion errors. However, the Lorentz force generated by MR’s magnetic field may influence radiation dosimetry accuracy, potentially affecting patient dosage. This presentation provided an overview of these advancements and challenges.
This partnership began in 2022 with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between CUP and Auckland University's Faculty of Science, focusing on collaborative research conferences and contributions to mathematics education. Since then, Auckland University has generously supported CUP by providing mathematics textbooks and resources. Additionally, during CUP's Science Conference in Tonga, Auckland University was represented by Professor Sina Greenwood and Dr. Sione Ma‘u, strengthening ties between the institutions.
CUP extends its heartfelt gratitude to Auckland University for the invitation, warm hospitality, and fostering a strong academic partnership.
May God continue to bless our academic collaboration.
