"Thou art worth, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."
Revelation 4:11

First and foremost, I would like to thank the Almighty God, who is the ultimate God-head of Christ’s University in Pacific (CUP), and whose Living Word provides the compass to righteousness and beacon of hope, that despite all challenges and opposition, His Will and Word will prevail.

We humbly acknowledge the first and only Chancellor of the University, His Majesty King Tupou VI, whose vision for education in Tonga has motivated a forward leap in quality education across the board. Your leadership is invaluable to CUP!

Christ’s University in Pacific was established in 2004 by the late Rev. Dr. Liufau Vailea Saulala as Lavengamalie Christian University with a critical mission: To provide an academically challenging, Christ-centred and Bible-based, and advanced-quality education to students from diverse traditions and low socio-economic backgrounds, which will equip them to lead and labour as scholar-servants in a changing world.

The Late Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Dr. Liufau V. Saulala led the University with great boldness, vision, and determination to inculcate Christian education from University all the way down to Kindergarten. The vision fulfilled in 2018, when CUP became the first national university to be registered with the TNQAB, and accredited in 2019. He expanded the co-operation of CUP with international universities to bring to Tonga what parents could not afford to give to their children. He brought Professors from abroad to Tonga, to give learners a taste of lecture halls in foreign universities. His passing on November 19th, 2020 is an immense loss for The University.

But the Lord’s work must continue, and the new Chairman, Rev. Nesiasi Kolo and the Board of Governors has passed the torch on to me. And although the shoes of the Late VC are too great to fill, I am enormously blessed to have a great Management Team in place. Leading is Dr. Gladys I. Fonua as Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of Academic Affairs, Dr. Tau’aho ‘Ahokovi the PVC of Financial Affairs and Deacon Paula Latapu the PVC of Administration and Student Affairs. Our Research Institute is headed by the research and education authority, Professor ‘Ana Maui Taufe’ulungaki. Here are the Leaders of CUP Academic Schools: Dean of Business & Law, Associate Professor ‘Aisake Eke; Dean of Science, Associate Professor Viliami Takau; Dean of Computer Science, Professor Pavel Kromer; Dean of Theology & Apologetics, Professor Wayne House; and Dean of Aviation, Professor Sebastian Han.

This Strategic Plan (SP) 2021-2026 is a continuation of the Corporate Plan 2015-2020, and I wish to thank Dr. Sione Tu’itupou Fotu, who has been appointed to head our Quality Assurance division, for his valuable input and assistance. His team up with Mr. Tu’amelie Kemoe’atu (Quality Assurance Officer) and Mrs Kilisitina Saulala (Registrar) has benefited the quality of our operation in term of policies, process, and procedures.

Special acknowledgements to the President of the Tokaikolo Christian Church, Rev. Nesiasi Kolo and the Church for availing office space for CUP in California, USA; Sydney, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand. And in Tonga, an extension was started in 2020 in Vava’u for Foundation level and online studies, and this year the same services were started in an extension in Pangai, Ha’apai.

In sum, I thank the current Minister of Education, Hon. Hu’akavameiliku and his Chief Executive, Prof. Tangikina Moimoi-Steen and the Government of Tonga for the collaboration on all fronts of education. To have been the first institution to be registered as a university in the Kingdom of Tonga is no small accomplishment. And with the imminent establishment of the Tonga National University, we wish you the very best.

I pray God’s rich blessings upon each and every one of you, and to everyone in the CUP global family, let us continue to strive for the best and give our utmost to glorify our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Let me close with the words of the Prophet Ezra in I Chronicles 29:11-13,

"Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee, and praise thy glorious name."
NKJV

“‘Oku ‘O‘ou, ‘Eiki, ‘a e mā‘olunga, mo e mālohinga, mo e lāngilangi‘ia, mo e ikuna, mo e aoniu; he ko e me‘a kotoa ‘i he langi mo māmani ko Ho‘o me‘a: ‘e Sihova, ‘oku ‘O‘ou ‘a e pule; pea ‘oku tuku tāupeupe atu Koe, ko e ‘Eiki ‘o e me‘a kotoa. Ko ia ai, ‘oku mau fakamālō atu, ‘e homau ‘Otua, mo fakahīkihiki‘i Ho huafa Ongoongoa.”

SCHOOLS IN OUR UNIVERSITY
OUR PARTNERS
OUR ACCREDITATION
Christ's University in Pacific is a locally-owned university under the guidance of the Tokaikolo Church. In 2018, we were granted accreditation and registered by the Tonga National Qualification Accreditation Board (TNQAB), becoming the first local university to be registered by the Board. We continue to seek affiliation opportunities and support in the fields of Business, Education, Theology and Apologetics. And our search is expansive, looking to the best universities and organizations to assist us in our growth and expansion of available curricula.
